Funding
Funding the Human Genetics Unit
The Unit receives funding from the MRC on a five-year basis, subject to peer review. This employs our staff, supports our 'core' research programmes, MRC postgraduate training programme, and infrastructure.
The Medical Research Council Human Genetics Unit
We are also successful in winning funding from other sources. For example, we have a number of awards from the EU which has allowed us to foster collaborations and carry out multidisciplinary, pan-European research which would not have otherwise been possible. We have funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH) in the US, and from a number of charities. This external funding has enabled us to set up projects which are complimentary to our core programmes.
A measure of our success and standing in the scientific community is the degree to which we attract international fellows who succeed in obtaining thier own fellowships. In recent years, we have hosted in excess of 50 such fellows funded by a variety of organsiations including the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), EU, Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP), the Wellcome Trust, the Caledonian Research Foundation and the Medical Research Council (MRC) as well as schemes sponsored by national governments.
