2010 Balfour Lecturer:

Dr Andrew Jackson has just been elected as 2010 Balfour Lecturer.The Balfour Lecture, named after the Genetics Society's first President, is an award to mark the contributions to genetics of an outstanding young investigator. The Unit has a great tradition with the Balfour Lectureship. Andrew is following Ian Jackson, Robin Allshire and Wendy Bickmore who were previously elected.

Untangling the String:

Congratulations to Emily Pritchard, a second year PhD student who has won the 2009 British Society of Cell Biology's Science Writing Competition. Emily's article entitled "Untangling the string" was based on her work on chromatin condensation in Cornelia de Lange Syndrome.
The prize was judged by Tim Radford, former science editor of the Guardian following short-listing by members of the BSCB Committee. Clare Isacke, the President of the BSCB will present the award before the Hooke medal lecture at the BSCB conference in Edinburgh in April.
The winning article will be published in the BSCB newsletter and on the lablit website.
