Amy Capper, who is a third year IGMM PhD student at the MRC Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh, has been awarded a first prize poster award at the 17th Meeting of the European Society for Pigment Cell Research in Geneva, Switzerland.

 

The poster described her current PhD research on MITF mutations that co-operate with BRAFV600E to promote and maintain melanoma.

 

Amy is studying in the laboratory of Dr Liz Patton who studies melanocyte development and melanoma, and is also a joint student of Dr Ian Jackson.

Colin Semple will reprise his Edinburgh Science Festival talk 'Mysteries of the Human Genome' (see previous news item):for a meeting of The University Of The Third Age, this is a network of self-managed learning co-operatives for older people no longer in full time work.

 

The local University Of The Third Age science group invites prominent academics to talk about their fields, and the talk is scheduled for 11 October 2012.
