chick OPT scanOpportunities in Computational Biology and Medicine:
6 March 2009

Several unit investigators have been successful in a bid worth around £500K for a quota of 6 prestigious MRC studentships. These MRC Capacity Building studentships aim to address the chronic UK shortage of computational biologists and include a £2K pa stipend supplement over the usual award (in 2009 the stipend is £15,290) as well as generous funding for research expenses and travel.

The general theme of the research will be analyses of complex genetic systems in the context of the basic and translational biomedical research programmes of the unit and IGMM. As biology and medicine are becoming data-rich fields there are exciting opportunities for innovative research using computation, mathematics and statistics.
